NYFW SS23: Our Team's Top Picks

Fashion Week Vanderbilt

New York Fashion Week is back, and we're here to give you the rundown on this season's best sustainable designers.

Angel Chang

Angel Chang is a seed-to-button, zero carbon womenswear line that is climate neutral certified and 100% handmade by indigenous women in Rural China. After 10 years of development, the ANGEL CHANG SS23 collection was presented at Pace Gallery during NYFW.

Collina Strada

Collina Strada stands by their mission of being a platform for climate awareness, social awareness, change and self expression. Their pieces are comprised of sustainable textiles such as rose sylk, deadstock fabric, and recycled cotton. Their collection in the SS23 show featured vibrant colors, unique silhouettes and a range of interesting textures.

Elena Velez

Elena Velez is an American fashion designer and artist who's known for her nontraditional synthesis of metalwork and high fashion. Velez works primarily with Midwestern artisans, machinists and welders outside of the fashion industry, and her self-named line repurposes salvaged materials from the Great Lakes area, such as sails, parachutes and steel. Her latest pieces emphasized the political weaponization of the female body, an appropriately timed collection as America moves solidly into a post-Roe era.

Estudio Organico

Estudio Organico is a design studio rooted in designing with intention. The brand pays homage to their South Floridian and Latinx roots through their core values of sustainability, multifunctionality and inclusivity. Their SS23 collection features versatile, multifunctional pieces that are made by upcycling or using responsibly sourced materials.

Gabriela Hearst

Gabriela Hearst first launched in 2015 with two main values: Long Term and Sustainability. The brand reflects a slower approach to fashion, where tradition influences more than trend and every piece has a unique purpose. Now in 2022, the brand has set the goal of eliminating the use of virgin materials in its pieces.
